Many women in corporate noticed tension exists between them and their work…
If that sounds like you, you might feel an inner battle between wanting to have a good income and wanting to actually enjoy what you’re doing, using your gifts, while making an impact on the world.
Your resume tells the story of “she’s got it all together”.
But in reality… on the inside, it’s a different story.
THERE’S ANOTHER WAY!

Below are 5 reasons why you might have considered quitting your corporate job…and why a career wellness might be a better fit.
- You recognize that your job does not offer you enough of the following 6 human needs: (1) Certainty, (2) Variety, (3) Significance, (4) Connection, (5) Growth and (6) Contribution.
- You connect to others. You’re a natural empath with high emotional intelligence that makes you an asset to your company. Yet, you desire to help others on a deep and meaningful level. You fear that you’re wasting your one chance at life by not taking a leap to something else.
- You don’t settle for playing into office politics (and unfortunately this doesn’t support your career’s elevation.)
- You desire to see and hear others. And, you expect the same from your superiors. This type of transparency and connectivity doesn’t translate well in your office dynamics or company culture.
- You daydream of dropping everything you’ve worked towards to work in Wellness. But your daydreams abruptly end with your personal responsibility to provide for yourself and / or your family.
Did at least 3 of the 5 hit home?
If so, you are an exceptional…OUTSTANDING woman!
Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room…the bad news.
If you have been experiencing a pull to get out of your 9-5 job to pursue a career in wellness, but you have not done anything about it….
You’re out of alignment and not living your best life 🙁
You are being called with help others in transformative ways.
But right now, you’re not offering the best version of yourself to YOU nor to the people around you.
If you haven’t come face to face with this fact until now…
Take a nice, deep, letting go breath and stand toe to toe with this. Breath in hope, exhale anxiety. Repeat 10x.
Outstanding women take ownership of their realities and when prompted to… TAKE ACTION.
An outstanding woman takes action knowing it’s not responsible to quit and run without a plan…a plan that she knows will serve her 6-human needs: Certainty of keeping your job, Variety in your days, Significance, Human Connection, Personal and Career Growth and Contribution to Humanity.
It's tempting to stay where you are, isn't it?
It almost feels like corporate has power to put women in a tunnel…
You entered the tunnel happily. You entered it excited to accept our shiny new role, title or promotion.
You felt great for some time…
You felt proud…
And slowly you realize that your increased paycheck got old, and your title feels “meh”.
The work that was once exciting has lost its luster. And perhaps you’ve realized that what you’re doing day in and day out doesn’t bring your life purpose or lights you up.
Many outstanding women like you experience the same thing…
And even though nobody really talks about it, I have news for you…
The part of you that wonder “is this it?” and says “you have more to offer the world”, NEVER lessens. It never stops.
It’s not going anywhere unless you acknowledge your inner compass and answer to your purpose to help others!
If you don't, it will continue to emerge for decades saying some iteration of:
“You were meant for more”…. ”
You will feel alive everyday, on fire if you contribute and help people more”…
“You were meant to enjoy your life…to uncover your greatness.”…
“You have gifts to share with others.”
Many of us were just conditioned to think we need to go to college for 4 years or more, get a job in corporate and work there for an arduous 40 years… counting the minutes on the clock…and intricately planning our 10 days of freedom per year.
Don’t get me wrong…
ALL work can be hard. Even the rewarding ones in wellness..
But here’s the good news…
Women who followed “the rules” and went to college…got the job…earned that promotion and still find something is missing, are not settling… they are RISING UP.
The problem is more than ½ of these women who know this just hop from job to job within their industry never to find what they are looking for…
How sad is this???
This is no way to live a life.
But there are a growing number of women working just like you who are leaning into their restlessness and finding a life on fire on the other end….
These women are turning up the volume to the little voice inside – just like you doing right now.
On a scale from 1-10, how ready are you to find a career that lights you up with purpose?
Well guess what, lovely?
It’s your time to achieve big and meaningful things that make an impact on the world.
Let’s get you started, shall we?
WOW! For the first time in a very long time, I feel HEARD. I currently work in corporate and as pessimistic as this sounds, I am not fulfilled… just being honest. I am grateful for all of my opportunities and all that I have learned but I was ready for something more meaningful. Corporate life to being a hypnotherapist-in-training has been a complete 180! But so, so worth it. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The support I have from other women is just a huge plus!
Whoa, that is REAL!
I love the 6 human needs, I have never thought about those like that before. It makes a whole lot of sense to me now why I’ve been running the opposite way from corporate jobs. Even in my field (I’m an illustrator), I can’t settle for it. It doesn’t feed my soul or warms my heart.
I’m on my way to becoming a hypnotherapist now and I’m so excited about it! NOW I know how I can make my life significant, meaningful.
The worksheet that goes with this post is pretty cool!! And I can’t wait to listen to the hypnosis recording I’ve just downloaded!
I’ve found my empathy to be both SUPER beneficial and also a struggle in the office workplace. It helps me to connect genuinely with clients and co-workers but then when there is a “bad apple” in the group, I have struggled in the past with that “bad apple” really impacting my days. My yoga teacher training, essential oils and hypnotherapy have ABSOLUTELY shifted my perspective in this area and has dramatically improved by day to day life!
I see myself so much in this. I make more money than most of my social circle, and my managers are pushing me for promotion, but I honestly couldn’t care less about my job apart from it enabling me to provide for my family because I am not helping PEOPLE, I’m helping banks make money. I used to have a sense of fulfillment in retail because at least I was helping a person or a family but the secondary market is so different and it’s left me more motivated than ever to find a way to share the gifts I have in meaningful ways.
Great blog post! This resonated with me so much. I felt the call to leave the security of job and branch out into a wellness business for myself. While it’s still in the initial stages, I already feel expanded from the people I’ve already helped and from living in alignment with my gifts. I’ve got lots of work ahead of me, but I feel inspired and capable. It’s an amazing shift, and I’ll never regret that I made it.
This hits home for sure! This is auctually what me and my hypnotherapist are working on now. Being okay with letting go of the old and embrace the new. My corporate career being one of the main focuses
I love this post and find that it resonates deeply with me and I’m sure so many others! It took me a long time to realize that I was living out of alignment and after making many changes and shifts, I can’t ever imagine going back to what I was doing. This is going to help so many people and I already know for sure that it’s helped me. 🙂
I totally identify with this post. When you have a calling, no matter what opportunities come your way in the corporate world you lose interest. I have moments where I feel bad that my team looks up to me to take a higher role but the truth is I just don’t look for those opportunities anymore. Of course, when you don’t look for them they actually knock on your door. I just want to work really hard to become a hypnotherapist before my next promotion knocks so that I don’t have to decline it. A turning point in my career is coming and I am very thankful for the opportunity to do it through the gift of hypnotherapy.
Loved the connection to being a highly sensitive person. It clearly illustrates the connection between why I’m drawn to this kind of work is so obvious. Thanks for your work!
This describes EXACTLY my experience and why I had to get out of the 9-5! I know that I’m meant to help people and have purpose in this world and definitely not in a way that sucks me dry and leaves me unsatisfied. Beyond grateful I changed the direction of my career and it’s refreshing to read an article to that point to help others find their path as well!
YAY! Say it again! You spoke to me and it feels good to know I’m not alone. It’s easy to think we are failures when we don’t love our work, when in fact we are not be meeting the 6 human needs in a career.
I resonated with many of the reasons above to start a career in wellness. I have a passion to help people that are suffering and I’m at a point in my life where I want to make a difference; to do things that matter, make an imprint, and change lives! I recently lost my corporate job, so this is the perfect time for me to take this leap of faith!
